B. The Word of God is Powerful
The Word of God is metaphorically compared to the Roman sword; a short sharp double edged sword, specially wielded to engage the enemy at close quarters in spite of his well fitted attire. The Word of God is more powerful and effective when compared to the mighty Roman sword. It is quick. It is active. It pierces so precisely that it divides the soul and the spirit, the joints and the marrow. It even discerns the thoughts and attitudes/ intents of one’s heart.
God reminds us that “though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
Satan is subtle. He still seeks whom to devour as he uses his characteristic lying tactics. Knowing and storing the Word of God is key in fighting Satan. In moments when Satan presents distorted truths, counteract his lies with the truth of God’s Word. When he beats you with accusations, rebuke him using the truth of God’s Word. When evil thoughts flash back and forth in your mind, pull portions of God’s Word that address that sin and side with God against yourself.
Make it a deliberate act of your will to study and hide God’s Word in your heart every day. As you strive to live by God’s Word, you will be alert on the day of battle. God’s Word works like the food we eat each day. It will give you strength to fight battles and win spiritual victories by simply acquiring and obeying it every day. Soak in the Word of God. Live by the truths of the Word of God. This is your greatest protection in spiritual warfare.
