Weapons for Spiritual Warfare: [A]

The Word

God’s Word has power. When taken and used appropriately, God’s Word has the potential to do what no other known weapon can do. It cuts, divides, burns, casts out, drives out even what is unseen, and grants surpassing victory.

Most dangerous and wanted men in criminal arenas have come into combat with God’s Word and surrendered themselves at will. The most violent who come in contact with it are disarmed. Their intentions and attitudes have been judged by it, resulting in quick sobriety.

A. God’s Word is the Sword of the Spirit.

Nations that have powerful military fronts are not only feared but stand as a threat to others. Such nations are not easy to attack. You have to think twice before engaging an enemy who is stronger and better equipped. The Word of God is so powerful that it is feared by the enemy. Satan will fight to keep you from acquiring this spiritual ammunition.

God’s Word is the believer’s mighty and deadly weapon. It is so effective that is disables every missile the devil uses in attacking Christians.
Before Christ could begin His earthly ministry, the devil tempted Him. Knowing the great work and the victories ahead of the Messiah, the devil attacked as recorded in Matthew 4:1-11 saying:
“….if thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.”
“…if thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.”
“”…all these will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.”

Being the very Word of God who was in the beginning with God and came to earth, Christ knew how to defeat Satan. Look at Christ’s formula of war against His skilled enemy.

“It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
“It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
“Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shall thou serve.”

The devil is relentless in his attacks and temptations. He will patrol your territory as he looks for opportune times to throw his grenades. Nothing is as effective as the Word of God in fighting Satan. This is because “the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
